Join us as we coast along the Atlantic for a father-daughter bike ride. We will be starting at mile zero in Key West, Florida. We plan to take on the Atlantic Coast one day at a time. We hope that this will be the perfect trip for getting in shape, learning new things, and experiencing America. We're pumped to get started and see where our bikes take us.

Day 9

Day #9: Juno Beach- Hutchinson Island (31.3 miles)

I overslept this morning, so we didn’t leave our hotel until almost 9AM.  Luckily we were “only” biking 30 miles today so it was fine we didn’t leave so early.

After about 3 miles we were climbing to the top of a bridge, when all of a sudden bells started to blare and red lights started to flash.  At first we didn’t realize what was happening but then realized it was a drawbridge, and it was about to go up.  We have probably gone over 20 bridges in the last week, but this was the first one that started to go up while we were on it.  We stopped, took some pictures and enjoyed the view as a cool yacht passed underneath.

After that we did about 10 miles pretty quickly, and then stopped at a Kwik Stop for some air conditioning and a cold drink.  We spent a lot of time on Jupiter Island which was really beautiful.

About ten miles later, my dad spotted a store with a bakery sign.  It was close to 12PM so we decided we had to go in there for lunch.  They had amazing bread and sandwiches, and we shared a great chocolate chip muffin for dessert.

Holy Cannoli! (again)
After spending a lot of time there eating, getting directions, and making friends, we hit the road again towards Hutchinson Island.  Luckily, the Marriot on this island was only 6 miles away.  However, it happened to be the sunniest, hottest part of the day, and we had to go over two bridges with pretty big inclines to get there.

We did make it to the hotel, where there was amazing air conditioning and ice cold lemon water in the lobby.  Between the two of us we pretty much emptied out the whole container.  We then enjoyed the pool, and even the hot tub for a few minutes, before it started totally pouring.

Tomorrow we hope to go about 38 miles to Vero Beach, and if we can figure out how to get there, we’d love to hit up the second location of the same bakery we were at today.

Happy Holiday and thanks for coming along for the ride!
