Join us as we coast along the Atlantic for a father-daughter bike ride. We will be starting at mile zero in Key West, Florida. We plan to take on the Atlantic Coast one day at a time. We hope that this will be the perfect trip for getting in shape, learning new things, and experiencing America. We're pumped to get started and see where our bikes take us.

Day 13

Day #13: Palm Coast-Fernandina Beach (97.1 miles by car plus 3.9 miles by bike)

We left our hotel around 9 this morning.  I felt much better today, and our plan was to drop the car near Jacksonville and then bike about 25 miles to a hotel on Amelia Island.  When we got to Jacksonville and were trying to find the Enterprise Car Rental location using google maps, we couldn’t find it.  My dad called Enterprise, and they told him that the location we were looking for was on a naval base, and we wouldn’t be allowed in.  Its funny because when he called them yesterday to see if we could return our car there, they failed to mention that we could only go there if we had military IDs.

At that point we decided to just drive to Amelia Island, and drop the car off there.  We left it at Enterprise, got back on our bikes for the first time in a while, and biked 4 miles to our hotel.

Surprisingly, it felt really good to get back on our bikes, even in 90+ degree heat, an even though we didn’t go too far.

After checking in at the Comfort Suites we headed to the beach and enjoyed the warm water and gentle waves in the Atlantic Ocean.

Afterwards we had some ice cream cones – because it’s always a good time to eat ice cream.  Also we had our first boiled peanuts of the trip.

Tomorrow we will be saying goodbye to the coast for a few days.  It looks like a long day of biking, but if all goes well, we’ll end up in Georgia!

Thanks for coming along for the ride!
