Join us as we coast along the Atlantic for a father-daughter bike ride. We will be starting at mile zero in Key West, Florida. We plan to take on the Atlantic Coast one day at a time. We hope that this will be the perfect trip for getting in shape, learning new things, and experiencing America. We're pumped to get started and see where our bikes take us.

Day 8

Day #8: Pompano-Juno Beach, Florida (47.4 miles)

After an extensive breakfast at the Residence Inn this morning, we hit the road. We were able to bike 20 miles pretty quickly, maybe because of our good breakfast, or maybe because of how well we slept, knowing we could have been at the Budget Lodge last night, but weren’t.  After those 20 miles we saw a place called the Ice Cream Club, so we decided we had to stop.  It was really good ice cream!

We then biked through Palm Beach, passing lots of other bikers, and lots of mansions.  Some of the other bikers were really friendly and helped give us directions.

When we were five miles away from our hotel for the night, I kinda wiped out.  Basically, there was a hole in the sidewalk we were biking on and my entire front wheel got wedged inside of it.  So me and my bike completely fell to the side, but luckily there was a patch of grass there and I didn’t get hurt at all.

This was a little scarier than my tree-hugging incident yesterday where my tire got caught in some dirt near a tree and I ended up hugging the tree, fortunately in slow motion.

Tonight we’re trying to plan out the rest of this week, because Friday is a holiday, and it could be hard to get a hotel this weekend.  Hopefully we’ll do about 30 miles tomorrow, and then make it to a place called Vero Beach for the weekend where we hope to see some good fireworks.

Thanks for coming along for the ride!
